This is a great week for me

Posted by admin On April - 30 - 2008

Why i say this? well, i know im not updating this blog as much as i wanted, first because of the exams, but now for a different reason. I have passed all my exams and this week i have time to have fun. It is the “academic week” here in Viseu. I don’t know how it is in your country but i guess it is almost the same thing. It is a week with concerts and house sessions where all college students celebrate. Im going out every night to attend the concerts and the house sessions, with a sufficient amount of alcohol to make me “Happy”! lol

The festivities started Sunday with a service at the Viseu’s Cathedral given by the bishop. All finalists are present and receive the bishop blessing.

It was very hot that day and at the end of the ceremony i was almost dehydrated! lol

Tuesday was the day of the parade. All courses make some cars to participate in a contest, and are exhibited through the city, with a lot of beer in process :p It was really fun, but the weather wasn’t willing to help, so it rained.

I arrived in the morning to my bed at 7am… im totally exausted, but after writing this post im going out again. It will be like this until friday! :)

This will be a crazy week!!! I just don’t want to get an hangover…. lol

Some news? the new domain name of this blog has been indexed by google pretty fast, i managed to change the blog url in payperpost and socialspark, but payperpost wanted me to change how posts were shown on the blog, so i have to change some things. :\, i don’t totally agree with the changes i had to make but ppp is one of my main income sources for the blog, although i don’t do a paid review for over a month now. :(

With the change of domain my alexa rank has gone, but since alexa changed it’s algorithm to rank sites, the update isn’t happening. It’s been almost 2 weeks without an update in ranking, so that’s the reason this blog isn’t ranked yet…

Btw, have you noticed changes in your PR? The blog domain is showing a PR of 3!!! What the hell? a 2 week domain with a pr of 3? let see if it stays like this :)

It is the end of the month and it is time to give some links from the top comentators of this month. Thank you for participating and here are the top five commentators links:

It is that easy to get a link to your blog. You just need to participate and do some quality comments :) A new month is beggining ;)

Hacked?

Posted by admin On April - 21 - 2008

Well, im still alive! After being more than a week without posting i am now in a phase where my exams are over (only 1 to go if everything goes well). Strangely or not. During this period of absence, my rss subscription numbers have beaten a new record high (47) :)

So this weeki plan to be more active and do a thing that i was planning to change. The blog name, and domain. So, in the next days the blog domain will be changed to Bloggervenue.com (it is already pointing here, so you can update your bookmarks.) I have changed the domain name has you may have noticed ;) Please update your bookmars. Btw, what do you think of the new domain?

Even it is only a change in the name and in the blog address, it will take sometime for it to be properly spidered, (i potentially will loose some of my good serp’s), i’ll have to change all the urls from social bookmarks, publisher accounts and so on… :( but it is a thing that has to be done.

Now, the reason for this post, as the title says, is that i thing i have been hacked. i have logged in yesterday to find out that all my sites with databases where malfunctioning. First i thought it was something with the server, because it was having a server load of 44, and it was lagging as hell. But then i realised that the tables that handled the posts were deleted. My forum and blogs had nothing to display except an error message. There was simply no data. IF this happened to a single site i wouldn’t suspect anything, but it happened to every site i had. even my bans stores lost the tables that handled the information.

Unfortunately with me busy studying, i haven’t done any backups since last month. So i had to restore my posts from google cache. :( and i haven’t still managed to fix my forum database. This is being hell. Now i found out that oiopublisher isn’t working. With the help of the creator, the plugin is now working :)

There is so many things to do and so little time for it, i must concentrate first on the exam and then on this. But im contacting with my host to see what happened, and if it is the case, to find the ip of the “funny guy” that did this.

This is the second time i publish this post, because i asked my hosting company to restore my databases, because they were newer than the ones i had.

So, what happened? because of the mysterious deletions of the database tables that handle the posts, i thought that i have been hacked, but after a short talk with the owner of the server that options was excluded. The server hard drive collapsed and there it was need to move all data to a new server. While migrating to the new server, some databases got corrupted. :( This problem made me loose a few bucks, but things like this happen, and no one that has hosting can say that this situations will never happen to them.

Bloggers stealing Bloggers

Posted by admin On April - 11 - 2008

This is a post that i was planning to do for some time now, but only today, i was able to arrange some time to think about and write it.

The title says it all. Bloggers steal from each other. Probably it s not the best title i could give to this post but i wanted to catch your attention. Probably a title like ” Giving credit is a beautiful thing to do” would be better. :p

What do they steal? They steal ideas, posts from each other.

Let’s see if i can explain this well.

I have been blogging for about a year now, and during this period of time i have read many blogs, and found many things that shocked me.

What “pisses me off” is the bloggers tendency to write about the same stuff at the same time. This is some what, normal when a new site launches and everybody wants take the opportunity while it is still hot. But what it should not be normal is when a blogger comes out with an interesting and original article, and others “copy” the article and don’t give credit for blogger “joe” for being the author, but are smart enough to change completely the phrases to mask the Plagiarism (i think this is the correct word), and after this genius brainstorming of changing the phrases, they manage to come with one or two phrases that were actually made by them. I can give you an example like a post called “10 tips for successful blogging“, that is copied, changed and then comes out like “11 tips for successful blogging“! wow!

Some bloggers take this into another level and wait weeks, even months before publishing copied post or, they post in a blog where they know that their audience does not read the blogs where they take the blog ideas. But for a blogger that reads some decent amount of blogs, will say: “wait a minute! i have read this before, where was it?”, or simply will say, like i said a lot of times: “ah come on! not another post about…..!”

So, who does copy, change and publish a post like it was their own creation?

Small bloggers? Sure. A considerable % of small bloggers (please don’t understand small as a diminishing word) will use this method to create posts, and due to their lack of experience (i hope) they forget to give credit.

And what about Big Bloggers? Surprisingly or not, i have found some of the considered big bloggers doing this (or worse), and getting away with it. And this is more serious than the small bloggers, because the big bloggers, will be the ones recognized by publishing the unoriginal post. Worse, they will be recognised for being the original authors of the post, and they will be the ones getting all the comments, all the trackbacks and all the exposure from blogs that correctly have the habit from mentioning the blog from where they got the post or idea for the post. This is unfair to who tries to come out with an original post (specially in this phase of blogging where all seems recycled content :( ).

The main problem is not directly related on posting content from other blogs, as long they don’t duplicate the content. The problem is not giving credit to the true post author.

If you were to do an academic work, you would fail if you don’t discriminate your sources to accomplish the work.

We all make mistakes, an im no angel here, i remember that i wrote a few posts and i didn’t gave credit to the blog where i took ideas from, some i couldn’t remember from where it was, but that is no excuse.

So, in the next time, you are getting inspiration from another blog please give credit. Who knows if you don’t win a new reader?

Sharing information, improving a post from another blogger is healthy. That’s how things evolve, but just remember to give credit. ;)

What’s up?

This is post is just a quick update…

Isn’t funny when you are filled with work and study, and new ideas and opportunities appear? i could have all the time in the world but nothing great would appear, but it is just needed to have 0 time for all the good things appear!! this sucks!!! lol

anyway, next thursday i will have a new college exam and i know almost nothing about it!!! i guess i have to work hard on the next 24h…. lol

Well, ideas have been popping on my head, specially about new names for this blog, and some thoughts about some fellow bloggers…. Also, i have been invited to test SocialSpark (a new site from the creators of payperpost). I have registered and will look on what they have to offer, and will write a review when spare time comes….

Until the next post: Happy blogging!

March Statistics and earnings

Posted by admin On April - 3 - 2008

Well, i usually don’t plan to write about my monthly earnings (has some bloggers do, even if they aren’t worth the mention :p), and this is only because i want to show you something i can brag about. lol But this month, i decided to show the blog statistics and earnings of the previous month. I think this was the right time to show you some more info about this blog.

Probably, march was the worst month of this blog in terms of earnings, contrasting with February, which was by far the best month so far.

So let me show you how blog.dahh.net performed in terms of statistics:

This blog failed to reach by a thin number (800) the top 100,000 in alexa ranking at the end of march. But, right now the domain is ranked at 98,616! :D hehe. Of course, this blog is in a subdomain, and the alexa rank is influenced by the traffic going to the main domain: dahh.net which is a portuguese forum community. Nevertheless, this subdomain is responsible for 50% of the traffic source. :)

The peak of the RSS subscription was 36. This is an aspect it really needs to evolve. (want to help me?)

1832 absolute unique visitors

3645 page views

Average time on site: 2min and 07 secs.

Bounce Rate: 75% thanks to entrecard :(

Traffic Sources:

Search engines: 48.03% :) - i received a great deal of traffic from long tail keywords ;)

Referring sites: 39.81%

Direct Traffic: 12.16%

My major traffic comes from United States, followed by Portugal, Canada, India and United Kingdom

Now for the profit:

The results from the total from my 2 main sites.

Using third party publishers: $58.43

Reviews:$36.95

Affiliate marketing: 12,08 - Definitely, an aspect to improve!

Total: $107.46 revenue

Now for the losses:

Bought OIOpublisher: -$37 (this is a great buy! i recommend it!)

Bought BANS -$97 + taxes (haven’t got enough time to develop decent stores.)

Advertising in other sites such as Buckserv or Moneybites: - $37

Total losses: -$171

March total: -$63.54

This is the first month with losses. But i don’t see it in a negative point of view. Some investments were needed, and they were made thinking in the future. In order to produce better results some investments are required, don’t you agree?

Off course, the results for april will depend on my time (final exams month), the quality of visitors and your participation ;) and i count with your help ;)
