The adventure of making money online!

Author Archive

Hello fellow blogger! It has been a while since my last post. I’m not back yet. I still have another month of hard work at the emergency room.

Today’s post is a short one and is kind of a complain to google. If you haven’t known, google seems to be on a quest to bring down Bans sites. Every day we see someone complaining that google has de indexed their BANS stores, even when they have developed the site with tons of original content. People kind of freaked out and started to develop Wordpress + Bans Stores. This seems to be the right path (?). So i hope.

Personally my experience with bans had better days. In august i had a website that was making me some good money, but google de indexed it. Since then i have been trying to get my site back to google index. I have changed the site to a wordpress platform with a store and still, it remains de indexed…. Then i decided to create a new site with a wordpress+bans site. I made the content first, edited everything i needed to do first before making the site available to google. A week has passed and not a single page was indexed. On the other hand, a simple wordpress site i have made at the same time the wordpress+bans site was indexed…

We all know that google penalizes bans stores, but is it possible it is starting to penalyze Wordpress+BANS sites?  I really hope not. I will give some more time to google index my new site before i take measures.

Another thing that pisses me off is that i have a couple of bans stores that i created with the sole purpose of testing and get to know the script. Oddly enough 2 of those stores bring me revenue… I say oddly enough because i haven’t done anything to improve them, they are just like any other bans store, with no meta tag, description optimization…. Nothing!!! But still they are indexed, they bring me visitors,they bring me money!! And this pisses me off because the other 2 stores where i spent hours of my time doing everything that is needed to make the store successful, fail to get indexed at google or simply were deindexed…

What is your experience lately with BANS Sites and google?

Wow. It’s been more than a week since i last updated the blog, but finally got some time to write.

I have done six shifts so far in the ER. MY first day was chaotic. Me and my colleagues started the day with a reunion with the Chief Nurse of the service. After that we went to know the service, get to know the nurses working there at the time, and observe how the work is done for the rest of the day.

The first day is always supposed to be for observation. But as usual, i started to work.

Since it was Monday, there were lot of people inside the service waiting for their turn, so lot of work to do. I didn’t know where things were, didn’t know how the computer program worked, so i had a lot to learn at the same time there was a lot to do. In the end of the day, i arrived to my home and thought: “Im so screwed!” lol

In the second day, it was a total different day. I spent that shift learning the software used and learned how to do triage. In the Hospital i am working, nurses are responsible to do the triage (before it was made by doctors), and the system used is the famous Manchester Triage. So it was a calm day. I took the opportunity to improve my IV catheterization skills and did several blood collection.

Reanimation Room

I had two straight shifts in the reanimation room. I have to admit, this is the room that at the beginning, scared me the most. First, because the type of situations that can arrive, and second, the speed procedures must be executed. I know im not the fastest guy to do things…

The first shif was extremely calm. There was not a single situation to resolve! My nurse Tutor said that was an odd day. Extremely odd. But in the end, it was good. Meaning that no one needed immediate care, no one in my region was in a life/death situation :)

In the second shift, it was a different situation. I had a patient that entered the Emergency room diagnosed with a Voluntary Intoxication. He was in need of urgent care, but thanks to our pre hospital emergency team, he arrived stabilized.

These days i noticed that a lot of people come to the ER with voluntary intoxication. Sadly, the survival rate is not 100%. This season is complicated… Autumn (and spring) are known to intensify depressions making the suicide attempts sky rise.

Another note i can give to you, is that have done for the first time CPR (cardiac pulmonary resuscitation) on a real person. We had a patient that entered in fibrillation. We started the Basic Life Support Algorithm, and them passed to the Advanced Life Support Algorithm. Sadly, despite our efforts the patient didn’t survived.

When some one dies, there is one final care that nurses need to do. We need to prepare the deceased for the morgue. When someone dies, we have to do the mummy.  Yes, we call mummy. I don’t know how you say in US or UK, but this is the correct translation from Portuguese.

I have done two mummies so far in 6 shifts. Due to the nature of the emergency room, the mortality rates are higher compared to others services i worked.

Now i have  more days to rest, but saturday a new journey begins…

Sunday Link Love

Finally some link love in time lol. I always try to write the Link Love Post on Sunday because it is the best day to do this, and it is kind like the standard nowadays.

So here is the link love of the week:

Matt from MoneyBites tells you how “Doing” is the only way to make money;

Robert from flimjo.com shows you how to invest Real Estate for Cash Flow;

Simon from otooo.com shows you the 5 keys to a successful blog;

anothermmoblog.com published a post saying the top commentator constests are not worth it.

Alexa Ranking

Finally! My blog has reached the top 100,000 in alexa ranking! Currently stands at 99,868! Most of you don’t give a damn to alexa rank, im included in that group (partially), but it is a mark that i can BRAG about! hehe :p

Emergency Room

well my friends, this monday, my internship at the emergency room starts. I will work for 8 weeks at the Central Hospital of Viseu, the city where i study. I am a bit anxious to see how well i will do in there. It will be a completely different internship that im used to, and i will see some serious trauma injuries.That will be…. interesting.

For this reason, and because it will be some hard 8 weeks, i will have to let blogging behind. This means that i will only write new posts when i have time for it. Hopefully, if i can organize my time my blogging frequency will not be altered to much (interested in some guest posting? contact me).

This is an excellent opportunity for me to diversify from my usual topics. So you will probably find some posts about my experience at the Emergency Room.

Hope you like the new approach while i do my internship (and search engines too hehe).

Until the next post ;) Have a nice week.

Information is Power

Every wise webmaster knows that the key to success involves keeping track of their websites statistics. So we use tools like awstats and google analytics.

Usually webmasters discuss which of these two provides the most accurate and pertinent data of our  sites. Google analytics has advantage in many ways, but there are still strong supporters of awstats.

But forget these two… There is a more sophisticated tool for us to use. It is called Woopra.

What is woopra?

As they say in their website, woopra is:

[...] the world’s most comprehensive, information rich, easy to use, real-time Web tracking and analysis application. [...]

I have been using Woopra for some time now, and i must say that i am a fan since the first minute i start using it.

Woopra is still in beta, and i applied several months ago to use the software while it was in a closed beta. Now everyone can register and use woopra services for free.

You just need to register, add your sites, download the software to your computer and wait your sites to get approved, and off course, add a given code to your website.

Woopra’s Interface

There are two options to use woopra. One is accessing the data on their website (it does not work for me though), and the other is to use a software on your computer. That’s where the true power resides.

The software’s interface used rocks! It is dark and beautiful, easy on the eyes. Simple to use and fast. The learning curve of this software is very fast. You will learn how to use it in a couple of minutes. All options are just a few clicks distance and it is all organized for you to not get lost.

Woopra’s Features

You can see a detailed list of woopra’s features here. I will mention only a few:

  1. Ability to track over 40 statistical events and analytics;
  2. Real time stats: live track of visitors coming and going and moving through your site;
  3. No delays in response time. The software is in your computer, not on a server.
  4. Flexible interface;
  5. Deep analytic and search capabilities;
  6. Ability to see who is visiting your site now;
  7. Chat functionality: you know who is on your website now, why not start a conversation with him? With woopra you can do this.
  8. Member tagging: you can tag your visitors so that you  can easily recognize them;
  9. Real Time notifications
  10. And much more!

You can know a wide variety of information. If you are used to google analytics you know what you can get plus a lot more.

What i like the most, besides the information it can give to me, is because it is a local method to gather information. I don’t need to login to a website to check the information i want. I don’t have to wait… i can have the information almost instantly!

Another aspect i think it can be very useful is the Chat feature. What can be better to talk with our visitors in real time while they are browsing our website? :)

Ok, using woopra is great but there is a problem… Don’t really know why, but to get our websites approved we need to wait weeks!!!! Months even! I don’t remember how much time i had to wait until this blog got approved, but it was more than a month im sure. I have added a new site 3 weeks ago and it was not yet approved….

Ok, maybe writing this post was a good thing because every site i add now is approved in the next day :)

So if you want to used this software, then register an account and add your sites, because you will need to wait a long time… Other than this, woopra is a very valuable tool for all webmasters!
