Did i just got Slapped by Google?

Posted by admin On December - 3 - 2008

Today i received an email about an advertising offer that i was negotiating in the past days, and in the mail the sender alerted me for the fact that Bloggervenue.com lost its Page Rank! I said “what the hell!?!?” and immediately checked my page rank and it was true!!!! Holy crap!

Many of you don’t give a damn about page rank but i learned to value my page rank 3 (at first) and the page rank 2 until recently.

I really don’t know why i lost my PR…. well, maybe i do know, but there is no way to prove what was the reason. Perhaps google bot detected link ads? i really don’t know.

Well, i lost the page rank, but i investigated a little more and saw that i lost almost half of my backlinks! Bloggervenue.com had almost 10,000 backlinks but now it is little more than 5,000 backlinks! This is a major difference!

This never happened to me so i am a bit lost. How can i loose almost 5000 backlinks so fast? Does any one have an explanation for this?

Have this happened to you before? How did you get through all of this?

March Statistics and earnings

Posted by admin On April - 3 - 2008

Well, i usually don’t plan to write about my monthly earnings (has some bloggers do, even if they aren’t worth the mention :p), and this is only because i want to show you something i can brag about. lol But this month, i decided to show the blog statistics and earnings of the previous month. I think this was the right time to show you some more info about this blog.

Probably, march was the worst month of this blog in terms of earnings, contrasting with February, which was by far the best month so far.

So let me show you how blog.dahh.net performed in terms of statistics:

This blog failed to reach by a thin number (800) the top 100,000 in alexa ranking at the end of march. But, right now the domain is ranked at 98,616! :D hehe. Of course, this blog is in a subdomain, and the alexa rank is influenced by the traffic going to the main domain: dahh.net which is a portuguese forum community. Nevertheless, this subdomain is responsible for 50% of the traffic source. :)

The peak of the RSS subscription was 36. This is an aspect it really needs to evolve. (want to help me?)

1832 absolute unique visitors

3645 page views

Average time on site: 2min and 07 secs.

Bounce Rate: 75% thanks to entrecard :(

Traffic Sources:

Search engines: 48.03% :) - i received a great deal of traffic from long tail keywords ;)

Referring sites: 39.81%

Direct Traffic: 12.16%

My major traffic comes from United States, followed by Portugal, Canada, India and United Kingdom

Now for the profit:

The results from the total from my 2 main sites.

Using third party publishers: $58.43

Reviews:$36.95

Affiliate marketing: 12,08 - Definitely, an aspect to improve!

Total: $107.46 revenue

Now for the losses:

Bought OIOpublisher: -$37 (this is a great buy! i recommend it!)

Bought BANS -$97 + taxes (haven’t got enough time to develop decent stores.)

Advertising in other sites such as Buckserv or Moneybites: - $37

Total losses: -$171

March total: -$63.54

This is the first month with losses. But i don’t see it in a negative point of view. Some investments were needed, and they were made thinking in the future. In order to produce better results some investments are required, don’t you agree?

Off course, the results for april will depend on my time (final exams month), the quality of visitors and your participation ;) and i count with your help ;)

Mini Site - 1 month final deliberation and a challenge

Posted by admin On February - 9 - 2008

I decided to write again about the mini site i created. Now that it is 1 month old i can give you more solid results.

According to google analytics the mini site had in one month:

283 visitors

569 page views

49% rejection

1.41 minutes average time on site

and 34% comes from search engine traffic.

As for the keywords researched, the search engine rankings are:

wii finder in store: 12

“where to buy wii”: 19

wii finder locator: 12

wii availability checker: 16

guitar hero wii finder: 6

and i could tell you more searched terms but the volume is irrelevant.

Now, enough this boring talk, and let’s head for the gold… well… pennies is more accurate… lol

In one month the mini site have earned me an exact total of $6. This means that i have “doubled” my investment on this mini site in a month.

With this, i proved that 19pages works pretty well, and in the hands of someone better skilled in marketing than me, the results could be 10 times more than this.

Now, for the challenge.

I invite you to create a mini site with 19pages, create a series of posts on your progress, and i will give you a guest post on this blog.

This is a test that can bring you easy money…. Think about it.

Increasing your link building

Posted by admin On January - 27 - 2008

Many of us, bloggers, read other blogs, and post on them. And in that blog we give our email adress, name and blog address.

Well, if the blog has dofollow links, then this is a good strategy to run. We write, readers see our name and link to our blog and then they just might visit us, specially one important reader named google bot.

This helps getting our blog indexed, and might help increase search rankings.

Till now this is good, but it can get better. How?

Don’t use your blog address like: yourblog.com, instead point the url to a post of your choice like: yourblog.com/a-post-of-my-choice

This way google will crawl different pages from your blog, instead the same root url, and making google bot think that blog owner is spamming.

You should try this every time you post on a blog. But there is an exception.

The exception is if the blog you are visiting uses commentluv, then  don’t bother doing this, because the plugin fetches your latest blog post. :)

Hope this was useful.

Digg.com for sale!!!!

Posted by admin On December - 19 - 2007

It seems that digg.com is for sale! A reliable source, according to Venturebeat, says that digg hired Allen & Company a tiny but influential private investment firm, to help broker a deal. The asking price is still $300 million!

This may or may not be a surprise, because rumours of a sale have been around for months. But so far, it’s being hard to find a buyer…. But who want’s to bet that Google will buy digg.com? lol
