Yesterday i mentioned how you could increase your link building, and did a short reference to commentluv.

So, i decided to install this plugin and see what effect will have on comments, since this aspect has been a little low lately at the blog.

Wha is Commentluv?

Commentluv is a free wordpress plugin that will fetch the lastest topic post from your blog, after you write a comment on this blog for example.

Many of us, bloggers, read other blogs, and post on them. And in that blog we give our email adress, name and blog address.

Well, if the blog has dofollow links, then this is a good strategy to run. We write, readers see our name and link to our blog and then they just might visit us, specially one important reader named google bot.

This helps getting our blog indexed, and might help increase search rankings.

Till now this is good, but it can get better. How?

Don’t use your blog address like: yourblog.com, instead point the url to a post of your choice like: yourblog.com/a-post-of-my-choice

This way google will crawl different pages from your blog, instead the same root url, and making google bot think that blog owner is spamming.

You should try this every time you post on a blog. But there is an exception.

The exception is if the blog you are visiting uses commentluv, then  don’t bother doing this, because the plugin fetches your latest blog post.

After every post you make on your blog, wordpress will ping some online services telling them that you have made a new post (like ping o matic). So, users from these services will know that you updated your blog, and bringing you possible visitors

The default ping service that wordpress uses is not enough. So i gathered some ping services over the time and now i want to share with you them.

I have been using them for some time now, and haven’t got any problem. You can use all of them or choose your favourites.

From time to time while i visit other blogs i see some “blog errors”. And one of the error im gonna mention today is the number of posts shown on your blog home page.

Many bloggers show 10 posts at the homepage. Ok, that’s not bad…. if you write 2-3 phrases posts!!! I personally recomend each blogger to have a maximum of 5 blog posts at your homepage, or even less if tend to write big posts like johnchow usually does!

The main reason is to prevent the visitor to scroll down too much and spare him time. Remember too much information at the same time is useless. Be honest. How many times do you visit a blog and see a ton of posts at the homepage? You seek to read the Titles but you loose interest because you take to much time to scroll down….

I decided to let you know what wordpress plugins im using in this blog.

1 - All in one SEO and Headspace 2 : these two plug ins allow you to turn your blog a little bit more friendly. Both help you creating tags for your post so that you can have your post easily spidered by search engines. Google indexes my post in a matter of an hour!

I prefer Headspace2 but, the two complement wach other. I did a review of headspace here.

2- Feedburnersmith: It is a plugin from feedburner to track your rss feeds. It is pretty useful and can help you show your visitors how many rss subscribers you have.

3- Buy me a beer: Well, i thins this is a funny plugin! You make a post and then below it shows a phrase created by you that ask you to donate for the blog. IN my case, i ask you to by me a beer (paypal donation) if you like the post.

4- Do follow: All my links “Do follow”! What does this mean? If you coment here and get your coment approved then when a search engine indexes my page it will go to your link and indexes it as well. It is my way to thank to all my blog posters.

5- Instant upgrade: This plugin allows you to instantly upgrade your wordpress version. Pretty useful.

6- Popularity Contest: This will enable ranking of your posts by popularity; using the behavior of your visitors to determine each post’s popularity. It also gives you some interesting statistics of your blog topics.

7- Share this: This plugin allows the visitors to share posts by email or by any social bookmark like digg, stumbleupon, del.icio.us. I recommend it.

8- Subscribe to comments: This is another usefull plugin, because it allows your visitors to keep track of any comments made after their comment, by sending a notification email.

There is also Adman, that im not currently using but it is usefull t ouse with google adsense. IT helps you place adsense code inside your posts. There are better plugins for this though, but i will let that for another post, because there are some plugins that i want to try.
