It is getting harder to show you professional and good looking wordpress magazine themes. The Majority is widely advertised by bloggers. A brief google search for “Free wordpress magazine themes” will show you the usual suspects. Pages that you are tired of visiting and showing the same old magazine themes.

Fortunately from time to time there is a new free wordpress magazine theme release that is worth mentioning. Today i have only 3 but i assure they are top quality.

The first two are from one of my favourity designers (Web2feel.com). They present us with regular wordpress magazine themes. The themes “skeleton” is basically the same, but they make alterations that make them impressive.

A free magazine that suites all niches. It is designed to help you make money through ads.

Nice olive color scheme. Definitely a theme to take into consideration for your next project.

Another excellent realease by web2feel. Theis free wordpress magazine theme uses a white color scheme with some grey and olive. It has the usual image slider, featured post and video and optimized for ads like google adsense. Worth taking a look.

3 – Premium Entertainment theme

This theme is obviously not for all kind of blogs. If you plan or have a blog about celebrities/gossip/fashion/entertainment then this may be the right choice.

This is a premium free magazine style theme for wordpress. Comes with a variety of plugins all included in the pack, and it is adsense ready.

Today im going to revive a type of post that brought me great amount of traffic (and still does).  Magazine themes for wordpress have conquered many bloggers and nowadays, these type of themes are in high demand. Every month i see new wordpress magazine templates, some free, some not free.

As you can see these themes have great quality indeed. Because they are magazine style, it will require you to do some editing, but don’t worry, they all come with instructions that make the process easy.

There is one thing though, that i must say, these themes are free, but only because they are sponsored. There are a couple of sponsored links placed on the footer of each theme.

These wordpress magazine themes are serious candidates for my bans conversions. I must say that i have been trying to convert some of these themes in the past day with no success so far…

We all know that poorly designed websites can make huge money, but we also know, that a good looking website can make the difference between failure and success. When a webmaster, or in our case, bloggers create a blog, one of the main parts of the process is to choose the right wordpress theme for it.  A google search quest starts and practically we all arrive at the same places with equal list of wordpress templates… While having a place that gathers a bunch of wordpress theme makes our life better, it will have a downside: it is most likely that the theme we choose is being used by several hundred other blogs. This gets worse if a particular theme is famous between our fellow niche bloggers.

Now, you have three choices:

1. you don’t care about it;
2. You have skills to customize the theme;
3. You choose another theme;

Now, instead of giving you the Best free wordpress themes as the majority do, i will give you:

Don’t get me wrong. These themes are great, but there are too many blogs using them on specific niches like MMO, SEO, Internet Marketing blogs.

Every day, new free wordpress themes are released, and many of them aren’t that famous, we just need to search further.

Well, it has been a while since a talked about one of my favourite topics here at bloggervenue.com. im talking about Free WordPress Magazine | News Templates.

WordPress Magazine templates are one of the most searched kind of templates. Sometimes i wonder why all this buzz about magazine templates, but the answer is simple. These templates rock! They fit on almost every kind of blogger, they are customizable and can give you your blog the push it needed.

So, on my occasional “fights” with google to find something useful to me i get a pearl like this one. To tell the truth, i was searching for decent Joomla templates for a website i was doing for the health centre where i was doing my nurse training work. Found a site that also had wordpress templates to download. Off course i couldn’t resist to give them a check. Then i found:

This template is a news style wordpress template (or magazine style). I really enjoyed this template (off course, if not i wasn’t writing about it here ), it has the advantages of template like this, it’s clean and soft. It has a web 2.0 look and is widget ready.

The template comes with a tab system like the one im using on this blog. Has a feature option, and comes with a neat horizontal accordion! A nice feature indeed, and it looks good hehe.

RedEvo News comes in 5 different colours! You just need to choose the one it fits your blog best and download.

Besides being a cool free wordpress magazine template it is not that known. So if you are using this template you won’t be using one of those more than recycled templates. This template will cause impact in your readers. They will say “wow, great new look” instead of “ah come on… im tired of seeing this template, boooo!”

In order to get the full potential of this template, you will need to do some file editing. You will loose sometime consulting the manual to know what you have to do. BUt don’t worry, what are 15 minutes in your busy life hey?

This is one of those rare days now, where i can stay up late. With these extra hours, i decided to do a thing that i have mentioned before, but i have kept delaying it: Creating a BANS template!

I haven’t been working much with BANS, so i haven’t researched a lot about it, but one thing is for sure, the BANS templates around are a complete crap! Well, at least the majority of them. The only decent ones around are…. Guess what? Paid!!!! No surprise here…

BANS stores are everywhere, and the user will get tired of the same old design, where the only change is the header logo (and because it is easy to change).

So, i gave up searching for free BANS templates and started to make my own.

Im no guru in CSS coding, so i used a free tool for this task. Itis my first attempt to create a template for BANS, and i created the template using the color scheme of this blog. The final work is Ok i guess. At least it is a bit different from the rest of the templates.

I call the template “Blue Emotion” (OMG! lol) and I will release the template for free. The only request is that you maintain the credits on the footer.

To install the template, you just need to upload the unzipped directory to the templates directory, login to your BANS administration area, click the template tab and select the Blue Emotion template.

This Saturday, the first stable wordpress 2.5 was finally released. After some delays and two beta release candidates, wordpress as reached another new level.

I could mention the new features that come with the new version, and how awesome the new control panel was, but i won’t do that. First, im not in the mood for that, and second, my first impression on the new cpanel was not that good lol.

Last week, with the release of the final version of the options theme, i decided to upgrade to the wordpress RC-2 in order to properly use the new theme, which was WP 2.5 specific.

I had to do some research first on how to safely upgrade my wordpress installation, and spent some time reading about the possible incompatibilities with some plugins.

So, after some research i decided that it was time to backup my database (obviously), not only from this blog, but from all my sql driven sites. Heck, if i was downloading one database why not download all of them and spare some time in the future?

Now, with all backups placed in a “safe” place it was time for the next phase:

Checking plugins issues with WP 2.5

Every wordpress blogger will have for certain, plugins installed, and most of you will be like me, a plugin addict, that installs almost all new plugins that appear lol. But this new version is different in so many ways, that some plugins might not work correctly, or not work at all.

So, a mandatory stop is the WordPress Codex where you can find a list of compatible plugins, and a list of plugins that don’t work with this new version. Just browse the list and see if there’s a plugin that you use and it is known not to work with WP 2.5. Just take notice that if your plugin is not on the list, that does not necessarily mean that it is compatible.

This may be also useful. There is a plugin called WordPress Upgrade Preflight Check that will generate a list of all your installed plugin, and it will tell you if there’s issues with the wordpress version you want to install. Unfortunately, the plugin author has not released yet a version that checks problems in upgrading to 2.5. It only does to version 2.3. But check the plugin page often, as i expect a release soon.

Now, with instant upgrade plugin, i just click to install the latest stable version of wordpress and voila! You have upgraded easily your blog and in a safe way.

Now, you just need to test your blog to see if you find any conflict with your plugins, and if everything is fine then, there is nothing more to say than:

This has been a busy day for me. I have spent the last hours configuring the new design for the blog and updating the wordpress version of this blog.

A new version of the wordpress 2.5 has been released. It is in the RC-2 Version now. Still in beta though. But still, i decided to upgrade the blog. First i did a full backup of my hosting (a thing that i haven’t done in a long long time). Downloaded a backup of the blog’s database, checked for compatibility issues with some plugins i run here, and deactivated the problematic ones. Then i did the upgraded with no problems at all.

The main reason i upgraded the blog was that the theme i am currently using (options themes) is fully functional with wordpress 2.5, and has some issues with version 2.3

I have been eager to use this theme for some time now, and this was the right time to do it.

I really like the new design of the blog. I was getting a little bit bored with the previous one (structure theme, which is still a great theme). This theme gives me more Options to play around , but due to the great number of options it will take some time for me to reach perfection. The next thing i will do, when i finish writing this post, is to make a new header. Right know the header says “Options Theme bla bla bla”, and that can’t stay there

While i was working on the updates i was thinking what would be the future of this blog. I mean, things are going well. I have a decent amount of traffic, my alexa score is reaching the 100,000 mark , but know a question appears. Should i move the blog from being a subdomain of my main website (Dahh.net) to a independent .com domain address or should i stay like this?

Justin Tadlock has become one of my favourite wordpress templates designer. He produces a style of templates that im very fond of: magazine style templates.

Recently, he created what he calls, a super theme. It is called Options theme, and it is a wordpress magazine style template. It is not only a magazine, it is a versatile theme that will fit every blogger need. As Justin says, the options theme is like Structure (the theme im currently using) on steroids!

The name says it all. This theme is packed with a load of options for you to choose. It will take some time for you to get comfortable with the options this great theme has to give

This theme is still in Beta version, but Justin plans to release this week the “final” version. He already made some changes for the current beta version.

But enough of this talk and lets head for what the options theme has to give.

Right now, the package comes with 3 CSS layouts. The original release came with a Dark css template and a light css template. This week, “new groove” style was added. You can choose which CSS style to use within the administration panel. If you know a bit of CSS coding, you can easily create a CSS layout to implement on options theme, if not, than you just need to wait for more releases from Justin or the growing community around this theme.

The homepage layout can be changed in multiple ways. There are five blocks, and in each block you can choose 14 different options.

The sidebar is totally widget compatible, and the theme comes with several widgets to help you customize the blog, from several ad widgets to flickr or a video widget.

One of the things a like most on this theme, besides the CSS customisation, is the Features Gallery option. This option uses Smooth Gallery. This allows you to cycle featured posts with a nice transition effect between posts.

As you can see, the demo is using the Dark version. The light version in my honest opinion it’s nothing special. There is now the new CSS style, new groove:

Pros:

- Great looking theme!

- Easy CSS customisation;

- Options for every kind of blogger;

- Widget Ready theme;

- Great support from the author and form the community

Cons:

- You will need to try, try, try all the options to see what fits best for you. (is this really a negative aspect? lol)

- Hum, can’t really think of more negative aspects…. lol

So, in conclusion. this is one of the best (if not the best) theme around. Im tempted to change my current theme (Structure theme) to this one. What do you thing? Should i change? Im really tempted, but i will wait a couple more days for the new release.

I love searching for new wordpress templates, and specially magazine style templates and preferably, free templates. Unfortunately, they are not very common, but from time to time there is a new release.

It is called BrandFordMagazine from Michael Oeser. The theme combines the best of other three wordpress magazine templates:

The revolution theme from Brian Gardner, The structure theme used on this blog, and Mimbo Theme from Darren Hoyt.

The layout of theme is very similar to the mimbo theme, which was the pillar of this new template.

This theme will require from you some editing, but nothing of extraordinary.

Overall, it is a good theme, that will suite the needs of many bloggers.

As a final note, wordpress templates interests many bloggers, and due to the demand of the visitors, i will write more frequently about new themes, and not only about magazine themes.

However i will search only for not very common wordpress templates, although i admit it can be difficult…

In my quest to search for a good magazine theme i stumbled with Structure Theme

I personally like it. It’s simple, pretty, very costumizable and easy to use. It requires some editing, and you need to do lots of trial and error. As you can see, there are some things that my not work, or are still to be edited.
