The adventure of making money online!

From where do you get ideas for mini sites?

Posted by admin On March - 26 - 2008

By this time, we all know that if we want to create mini sites, we need to do some keyword research to find a niche where it is possible to easily compete with other existing sites. (if you don’t know how to do keyword research then you should read my mini site creation series Part 2).

But where do you get ideas for keywords to research?

Sure it is easy to find a word. You just pick the first word that comes to your head, write it on a tool that gives you long tail keywords, and do a little study to see the competition and searches these long tail keywords have.

I personally, don’t do this often. 95% of the keywords i research using this method turn out worthless, and this is a time consuming method, although patience pays off. Just pick an afternoon or any part of the day where you have a few hours to research and create your list. Right now i have around 15 keyword lists ready to be studied, but i lack time…

From time to time, and now im heading to the point of this post, a keyword just “pops” in my head! i usually don’t carry some paper to write down the keyword, but i really don’t need it because i use my cell phone notepad for that. Hehe.

Keywords “popping” from your head tend to be better than researching a massive amount of keywords, based on my experience. But we must not forget what surrounds us, or what we see or hear.

The best keyword so far to me, was found while watching a comedy movie! I took note of that keyword and then when i arrived at home, searched for long tail keywords related to that main word. Did a research on number of searches and competition and manage to select some keyword phrases. Did the mini site, and i can say to you that in 10 clicks in 2 weeks, it managed to make 4-5 times more than 50 or more clicks from several other mini-sites in months!

So, don’t forget, pay attention to the “inspiration of the moment” that may appear at any time, and the tips your surroundings are giving to you… you’ll never know when a gold mine is right beneath your nose. ;)

And you? how did you found your best keyword so far?

SnapBomb Buzz marketing

Posted by admin On February - 26 - 2008

SnapBomb?!? Oh yeah. Another great source to make money online and create some buzz about your site.

At snapbomb you get paid to review offers from advertisers.

But you say: “what? another paid to blog site?”

And i say: Not just another paid to blog site. Snapbomb is another valid option to make some money online, but besides this there are some aspects i want to talk:

Snapbomb couldn’t be easier. Your blog will be accepted rapidly. The control panel is simple. Don’t be “scared” by the lack of options. You get all you need. No complications. Simple and direct, and a great looking site.

There are already some reviews waiting for you! (some competitors fail to do this).

sadly, Snapbomb doesn’t have a referral program, which is not a big surprise since only a few sites like this offer a referral program.

I have only recently joined them, but so far i liked what i have seen. Register now and grab a “piece of the cake” ;)

How many sites does your rival has?

Posted by admin On February - 24 - 2008

Well, i don’t think that no blogger has a rival in the real sense of the word, but let’s say in a positive way. You wonder how many sites a certain blogger has…

Well, if you want to have a 100% correct answer, then you can give up right now, because there is no way you can get a 100% certain… If you ask a blogger then it is most probable that he/she cant’ answer you with a right number.

But, there is a way, where you can have a number, that is no where near the right number.

You can use Google analytics to get a number. Let me show you how.

Visit a site that may interest you, and if that site is being monitored by google analytics, then just see the page source code (press F11 if you are using mozilla).

Let’s use my example:

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

This code is from one of my mini sites, and if you click the image, you can see a red square around a number: the number 8.

This 8 means, when i created a new profile on google analytics, the associated code generated was the 8th code generated. So at that time, i had 7 other codes to use on 7 different sites.

This way, you can have a slight idea of the number of sites someone has. I say slight, because the webmaster may have created another websites, for example, if you check my G analytics code you will see that i have a 2 for this blog. My number 4 code may not be being used at this time, or i can have other sites being monitored by other service or as it happens on several of my minor sites, i only monitor them trough my cpanel stats.

This is intended just for curiosity purposes and nothing more :)

oh, and btw, there is a lot to learn checking the source code from other bloggers ;)

Pligg - A digg.com clone

Posted by admin On February - 18 - 2008

Lately i have seen lots of new social bookmarking sites. The reason is that there are several free scripts that allow us, fast, free and easily to create a social bookmarking driven site.

One of those scripts, is Pligg. It is a free CMS (content management system), it is open source and powered by a php/mysql.

This script, besides allowing the webmaster to manage a digg like site, joins the power of CMS.

The script is at version 9.9 beta, meaning that the community is active and constantly releasing new features, mods, templates.

Unfortunately, there are many social bookmark sites around these days. Competition is some what high, but there is still space available… And some money to be made ;)

Mini Site - 1 month final deliberation and a challenge

Posted by admin On February - 9 - 2008

I decided to write again about the mini site i created. Now that it is 1 month old i can give you more solid results.

According to google analytics the mini site had in one month:

283 visitors

569 page views

49% rejection

1.41 minutes average time on site

and 34% comes from search engine traffic.

As for the keywords researched, the search engine rankings are:

wii finder in store: 12

“where to buy wii”: 19

wii finder locator: 12

wii availability checker: 16

guitar hero wii finder: 6

and i could tell you more searched terms but the volume is irrelevant.

Now, enough this boring talk, and let’s head for the gold… well… pennies is more accurate… lol

In one month the mini site have earned me an exact total of $6. This means that i have “doubled” my investment on this mini site in a month.

With this, i proved that 19pages works pretty well, and in the hands of someone better skilled in marketing than me, the results could be 10 times more than this.

Now, for the challenge.

I invite you to create a mini site with 19pages, create a series of posts on your progress, and i will give you a guest post on this blog.

This is a test that can bring you easy money…. Think about it.
